Think Before You Buy Organic

 (NYTimes.com)

The following link is an article was sent to me from a friend and former classmate, Yi-Ming Law. It addresses some issues that have arisen with the increase in popularity of buying "organic" produce and products. Organic farms are becoming increasingly large and industrialized, depleting soil and water, similarly to many large farms that many environmentalists detest.

One important issue that the article addresses is the Agriculture Department's definition of organic. The question the public needs to ask is whether or not having stricter laws about regulating how organic farms are run will actually effect environmental degradation or will these large industrial farmers still have harmful effects to the environment despite running farms on "atleast eighty percent renewable fuel".

Yeah, organic should not be confused with sustainable. Have you read The Omnivore's Dilemma?
