Restaurant Review: The Grasshopper
In
my first moments in Toronto, I was looking for a place where I could grab
something light to eat that had WiFi. I have a deep love for cafés with a
casual enough vibe that I can plug in a computer and get some work done that
also serves delicious food. In passing, I saw “WiFi” across a big glass window.
I looked through the words at a long and narrow restaurant with modern lighting
and dark wooden colored tables. There was a small bar at the front where I
could use my laptop.
I glanced at the menu.
$4 nibbles.
$7 chili.
$8 salad.
I was sold. I went in,
plugged in my laptop and ordered a chili. I held onto the menu so that I could
look at it as my laptop was turning on. The chili I ordered was vegetarian. I
had not realized. As I gave the menu a better inspection, I realized that every
item on the menu was vegetarian and the restaurant even had some great vegan
options, including vegan desserts. I was enthused!
The chili was
delicious.
All of the menu items
seemed to use plant-based ingredients to replace the animal products in the
seemingly traditional menu items. Unlike some vegetarian food, the vegan and
vegetarian options did not feel like they used substitutions. The foods at
Grasshopper tasted and felt naturally vegetarian and vegan – like that is the
way the food was supposed to be made. The prices were also very reasonable and the
atmosphere was casual but classy.
I highly recommend The
Grasshopper on your next trip to Toronto!
